Most people only look at the next iPhone launch, but what many don’t realize is that Apple already has a three-year roadmap for how the iPhone will change.

This Apple 3-year plan starts in 2025 and stretches all the way to 2027, with each year bringing something new and different.

Apple 3-year plan could change the iPhone completely

2025: iPhone Air begins the shift

The first step in this Apple three-year plan is the iPhone Air which is expected in 2025. This model is rumored to be very thin, much thinner than the current models. It might even replace the Plus versions that Apple sells now.

One of the most important parts here is the new C1 modem chip that Apple is designing by itself. Till now, Apple was depending on outside suppliers for modem chips, but with this, the company wants to control its own technology better.

The iPhone Air will not only look different, but it will also be the start of Apple’s move towards more independence in its hardware.

2026: Foldable iPhone finally arrives

The second step of the Apple 3-year strategy is probably the most exciting for many people. In 2026, Apple is expected to launch its first foldable iPhone. Rumors say it will be called the iPhone Fold or maybe iPhone Flip .

Unlike other foldable phones that flip like a clamshell, Apple’s model is expected to open like a book. That means a larger screen inside, which is good for multitasking or media.

To keep it slim, Apple might bring back Touch ID instead of Face ID. The Face ID sensors take up space and would make the foldable thicker, so Touch ID is the smarter option here.

Reports also mention a four-camera system that will work well whether the phone is closed or opened. If this is true, the foldable iPhone will be very different from the current devices and could change how people use smartphones.

2027: A full redesign for iPhone’s 20th anniversary

The final stage of the Apple 3-year plan will arrive in 2027, and this is the big one. It also marks the 20th anniversary of the first iPhone . Apple is said to be planning a full redesign for this special year.

Instead of the flat, squared edges we see now, the company is expected to return to a curved glass design that looks more fluid and modern.

Along with that, a new software design called Liquid Glass is being worked on. This interface will have translucent layers and give the display a more flowing feel.

This will not be just a design change, it will represent a new phase for the iPhone, very similar to how the original iPhone started a new era back in 2007.

When you look at the bigger picture, the Apple 3-year plan is more than just yearly iPhone upgrades. In 2025, we will see the thin iPhone Air with Apple’s own modem.

In 2026, the long-awaited foldable iPhone will finally come. In 2027, a full redesign with curved glass and Liquid Glass software will celebrate 20 years of the iPhone.

Apple is clearly preparing for the future in a step-by-step way. These three years could be the most important for the iPhone since it was first released.
