
Facebook is reportedly working on its full-fledged operating system, Facebook OS for its hardware products like Oculus and Portal.
Facebook says that this will reduce its dependency on Android for operating its hardware products.

From a report by The Information , we ought to know that Facebook is working with Mark Lucovsky, an ex-Microsoft official who is known as the co-author of the Windows NT operating system, for building the social network an operating system from scratch.
Andrew ‘Boz’ Bosworth, Facebook’s VP for hardware says, “ We really want to make sure the next generation has space for us. We don’t think we can trust the marketplace or competitors to ensure that’s the case. And so we’re gonna do it ourselves. “
At this time Facebook’s Oculus and Portal runs on a modified version of Google’s Android and fully dependent on Google for the development of the core OS.
We currently don’t know any announcement, timeline and future expansion of the OS to platforms. We can surely say that they will be implementing this to their VR and smart devices like Oculus and Portal.
Reports also suggest that Facebook is working on its own custom chip hardware, alongside a voice assistant that it confirmed earlier this year. Facebook seems to be following a similar path as Apple.
