Back in early 2024, the developers made the call to cancel the 2025 edition completely. They said they wanted to put all their time into making Football Manager 2026 better than anything before.
It was not an easy choice, and yeah, some fans were not happy. Those who pre-ordered got refunds and the studio said sorry for the wait, thanking the community for understanding.
At the time, many were wondering if it was worth skipping a year. From what we are seeing now, maybe it was.

What’s new in Football Manager 2026
So, they dropped a teaser trailer and it already shows some big changes. The most talked about thing is a brand new match engine.
This is supposed to be the most lifelike version yet. The players, stadiums, and even the crowd look much more real now.
In the trailer , the voice you hear is Peter Drury, the well-known Premier League commentator, which already gives it a big match feel.
Also, the trailer shows Premier League branding in a few shots. This might mean there’s a stronger deal with the league this time, but nothing has been confirmed. They also said the footage isn’t final, so there could be more changes before release.
When will it be out
There’s no exact date yet, but Football Manager 2026 is planned for later this year. That means fans won’t have to wait another full year before they get to play it. If you’ve been holding off on older versions, this one looks like it could be worth the wait.
Football Manager 2026 is shaping up to be a big step forward for the series. With a new match engine, better visuals, and possibly new official partnerships, it feels like the time away was used well. Now it’s just about waiting for the release date and seeing if it lives up to the hype.
