Google finally accepted and announced a free repair program for the Pixel 9 series for display faults like vertical line(s) across the display and flickering of the display.
Users across social media have been complaining about the display issues since the launch of the Pixel 9 series, including the Fold, especially after the June 2025 update .

There was no prior announcement from Google , but yesterday Google acknowledged it by announcing an extended repair program, which sits alongside the standard limited warranty for the display issues.
Pixel 9 Pro XL Display Issue
Who is eligible? Google specifically mentioned on the program page the exact issues that are eligible for the free repair program.
Google Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL will/may qualify for the repair program if the user is experiencing display flickering issues and/or a vertical line across the display .
Note that the program coverage lasts for 3 years from the date of original retail purchase, and any repair under this program will have a limited warranty for the next 90 days of the repair.
Who is not eligible? Your Pixel 9 series may not be eligible for the free repair program if your device poses any other display issues except the two issues mentioned above and/or any other physical damage.
The issues that could disqualify you from the free repair program are cracked display, liquid damage, cover glass, etc.
How to get the free repair? The free repairs are available starting from December 8, 2025 onwards. You can just visit the near Google walk-in center or any Google authorized service center.
And for some reasons, if you can’t visit the center yourself, you can register an online request to pick up the device from your residence itself.
Before moving forward with the repair and handing over your device to Google, make sure you create a full backup of your device in case anything goes south. You can back up your device by going to Settings → System → Backup , then enable Repair mode in System.
Furthermore, Google also has announced the similar extended warranty program for your Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold as well.

Google has stated that the company “has determined that a limited number of Pixel 9 Pro Fold devices may experience issues that affect functionality of the device.”
The exact issue for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold isn’t mentioned on the program page, unlike the Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL. But the terms and conditions that may disqualify it from the program are the same as the other Pixel 9 series, so we could anticipate it, as the issues are related to the display itself.
