- Samsung Galaxy S25 FE signals the FE series is evolving, not disappearing.
- S20 FE’s unbeatable value has shifted to a focus on design, software, and long-term support.
- The new FE still offers premium features, but without the same shock-value pricing of the early days.

People keep asking me if the FE series is still alive or if Samsung has slowly killed it. I get why. The hype around the Samsung Galaxy S25 FE is not the same as the first time we saw an FE phone.
But before we jump to conclusions, let’s look back and compare what made the S20 FE such a big deal and how the newer ones like S21 FE , S23 FE, S24 FE and now the S25 FE fit in.
Why the S20 FE was a turning point

When the Galaxy S20 FE came out, it felt like Samsung actually listened to what people wanted. You got the main flagship features, solid camera, bright display, high refresh rate, and all that for a price that was way below the main S20.
It sold more than 10 million units in a year which is huge for any phone in that segment. That was the peak moment for the FE series. People talked about it like it was the smartest phone purchase you could make.
Where it started to slow down
Then came the Galaxy S21 FE and this is where things started to change. The launch was late, the market had already moved on to newer flagships, and to be honest it just didn’t feel like a big upgrade from the regular S21.
There were some small issues too like heating on certain models and battery life not being as good as expected.
After that, we didn’t even get a clear S22 FE , which made a lot of people think Samsung just gave up on the FE series. The slow climb back
The Galaxy S23 FE tried to get things back on track. It was a decent phone, balanced specs, and a fair price for what it offered.
Then the Galaxy S24 FE came in with more focus on Galaxy AI and a promise of long software updates. It was less about having crazy hardware value and more about giving you a long-term phone that fits into Samsung’s ecosystem. That worked for some people, but others missed the old magic of the S20 FE days.
What the Samsung Galaxy S25 FE is telling us
Now we have the Samsung Galaxy S25 FE coming soon and from what we know, it’s shaping up to be a cleaner and more premium looking FE.
The leaks say it has a 6.7 inch AMOLED display with 120 Hz refresh rate, slimmer design, Gorilla Glass Victus, and Armor Aluminum frame. It will run on Android 16 with One UI 8 and also get 7 years of updates which is a big plus.
Performance wise, it might use the Exynos 2400 which is better than the 2400e from before, but it’s still not as strong as the main flagship chips.

That’s where some people will complain, because if you want the fastest processor, you’ll still have to go for the main S25 or Ultra.
Cameras are looking similar to the last FE. A 50MP main, 12MP ultra wide, 8MP telephoto with 3x zoom, and a 12MP selfie. Battery could be around 4500 to 4900 mAh with 45W wired charging and 15W wireless.
Price is expected to be around 600 to 720 dollars, which is not bad considering the updates and features, but it’s also not the kind of shock value we saw with the S20 FE.
Comparing S20 FE to newer FE models
The S20 FE was all about giving flagship specs for way less. The newer FE models are more about giving you a solid, balanced phone that fits into Samsung’s long term update plan.
You still get premium build and features, but you lose that wow factor of paying much less for almost the same as a flagship.
Is the FE series dying or just different now
I don’t think the FE series is dead. The Samsung Galaxy S25 FE shows Samsung still sees a place for it. But the purpose has shifted.
It’s no longer only about delivering the best specs at a lower price. Now it’s about a good mix of design, camera, software, and support for people who don’t want to spend flagship money but still want a premium Samsung phone.
If you expect the S20 FE magic, you might be disappointed. If you just want a reliable, premium feeling phone that will last years with updates, the S25 FE is still worth looking at.
