Microsoft to Shutdown Cortana From Android and iOS - 1

Last year at Ignite Conference, Microsoft said that they are planning to shut down their voice assistant Cortana from mobile apps and Yesterday Microsoft announces that Cortana assistant will shut down from Android and iOS apps, the company will end Cortana support for the Harman Kardon Invoke smart speaker, and remove the original Cortana functionality from the first-generation Surface Headphones starting in 2021.

According to Microsoft , “ As we make this shift toward a transformational AI-powered assistant experience in Microsoft 365, we need to adjust our focus areas of innovation and development to give our customers assistance where they need it most. As a result, we are making changes to some U.S. consumer-centric features and functionalities with lower usage .”

The change will take place in the next upcoming months, but this will be considered as a big step from Microsoft to make Cortana a more specialized, productivity focussed assistant instead of whirling it around the alternatives including Google Assistant, Alexa, etc. The company has started making changes in Cortana on Windows 10 earlier this year, the company has decided the date of 7th September 2020 for removing the third-party Cortana skills.

Microsoft is now more focussed on the productive service that will repurpose Cortana as a part if Microsoft 365 Suite, aiming to change Windows 10 functionalities and also integrated features of Cortana in Outlook and teams apps.

Microsoft said We’ve spent a lot of time thinking through this transition and understand that these changes may be disruptive to some of our customers.
