Tales of the Shire - 1

Honestly, when I first saw Tales of the Shire , I thought it was exactly the kind of game I wanted. I’m a fan of Tolkien’s world, and a game where you live peacefully in the Shire sounded perfect.

Farming, talking to other hobbits, cooking, chilling near a river… it all sounded great. But after playing it for a while, I felt like something was missing. Actually, a lot was missing.

Tales of the Shire Review: Looks Cozy But Doesn’t Really Deliver

It’s a nice idea, but that’s all

So the game tries to do what games like Animal Crossing do. But Tales of the Shire just doesn’t have that same depth.

Like, when you go fishing, it’s the same thing again and again. Few spots, same fishes. Even when you unlock new stuff, it’s still kind of the same. Farming, foraging, and all that, also feel very basic. Nothing really improves as you go.

And most quests are just “go do this thing you’ve already done a hundred times” kind of tasks. It got boring fast. I expected things to get better as I went on, but it stayed kind of flat the whole time.

Cooking is the only part that feels okay

The only part I actually liked was the cooking. You gather stuff and make food for other hobbits. They all have preferences, and when you cook what they like, you build better relationships.

It’s a simple system, but it gets a bit more interesting later with new tools and recipes. Still not mind-blowing or anything, but at least it felt like something was progressing.

Performance issues make it worse

The technical side of the game is also a problem. On my PC, which is pretty good, it still had stutters, random crashes, and some visual bugs.

A few times I lost progress after the game froze, especially when I was cooking something a bit complex. That’s super frustrating. The graphics look cute, sure, but it’s not even a high-end game, so not sure why it’s struggling so much.

If you’re expecting Tales of the Shire to be a deep and cozy life sim, I’ll be honest, it’s not that. It looks relaxing at first, but it just doesn’t go anywhere.

Most of it feels repetitive and undercooked. The cooking system is decent, but that’s not enough to carry the whole game.

Unless you’re just looking to chill with zero expectations, I’d say wait until it’s more polished or gets a proper update.
