GTA V Launched in Saudi Arabia - 1

The news became official when the General Authority for Media Regulation in Saudi Arabia and the UAE Media Council announced that GTA V is now approved for release. But here’s what’s interesting. They gave it a 21+ age rating , which is higher than the usual PEGI 18+ rating.

That specific rating is actually what made this possible. It allowed the game to pass through without getting edited or cut, which wasn’t an option before.

After 10 Years, GTA V Is Finally Approved in Saudi Arabia; Here’s What That Means

Why This Took So Long

I’ve seen a lot of people asking, “Why now?” And honestly, it’s because the rules here around gaming have been changing slowly. Since around 2016, Saudi Arabia started making its own game ratings instead of just copying PEGI.

That’s how games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and God of War managed to come here before. But this new 21+ system makes things way easier for publishers to get their games through.

And yeah, GTA V was just waiting for the right moment.

This Is Bigger Than Just One Game

This is not just about GTA V . It’s about how the gaming scene is growing here. According to reports from Niko Partners , over 90% of gamers in Saudi, UAE, and Egypt are already above 21 , so it’s not like people weren’t ready for this. The market’s huge. It’s expected to reach $2.8 billion by 2029 , and this move will only speed that up.

Also, Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive , signed a deal with a Saudi company called Advanced Initiative Company , so now games like GTA, NBA 2K, WWE 2K , and more will be distributed directly here. That’s big for all kinds of gamers in the region.

What This Means for GTA 6

If you’ve been wondering whether GTA 6 will launch here without delay, there’s a good chance it will. It’s planned for release in May 2026 , and with this 21+ rating system already in place, there’s no reason why it shouldn’t be available here too. As long as it fits within the local guidelines, of course.

It also means publishers are finally looking at the MENA region seriously, not just as a small market but as a place where games should be released on time with the rest of the world.

So yeah, this isn’t just about finally being able to play GTA V in Saudi Arabia legally. It’s about how things are changing for gamers here.

After all these years, this approval shows that local gamers are finally being considered. It’s about access, growth, and actually being part of the global gaming world. And personally, I think this was long overdue.
